Figure Drawing Week 12

This week I expermented with some bright color pastels, the result was interestingly messy. Always remember when you use pastels make sure you spray fix it after finishing. Anyway,I like pastels very much because you can easily work layers on layers and erasing doesn't take much effort.
Good news for figure drawing lovers: the figure drawing hours will continue through the semester, so I will see some of you eveyr Tuesday:)

FIGURE DRAWING WEEK 11

Hello! My name is crankee pants.

I am 12 years old and I live in a communist country. I have a life like everybody else. Some people write diary but I prefer drawing it on paper. I decided to share them with you because I think you need to look at my life and be thankful for yours.

In the morning I go to school, then I come home. I am not the popular one in my class nor I am the most unpopular one. My teacher Mrs.Tuat is not exactly the best teacher in the world either. Mrs.Tuat has a list of all her favorite people, I am not on it. I have three best friends but I am sort of un-welcomed in their birthday parties. I don't have a boyfriend although I do have my eyes on someone in school. I can't really say his name because it makes me sad. We were in love secretly for a very short time (three days) then he dumped me. My mother went on a long trip so I am living by myself, I enjoy it.

An unfinished painting, starbucks sketch and Crankee Pants

Another Krankee Pants story. Some random memories of my childhood were used in the story. In China, at least in Beijing, when I went to elmentry school, we had to hand in our homeworks from the night before to get them graded. I just happend to be the sucker who often forgot the homework and send home to pick it up. So that was my morning excerise..

Star-shmacks Sketches 08/18/06

I was so scared when I sketched this lady. She noticed that I was looking over a little too often so she blocked herself with a couple of kids. I was worried that she would come over and ask to see what I was doing, and she probably won't enjoy my drawing as much as I did...

Saturday painting

This beautiful garden is located at Greenhill, Wilmington. We stayed from 15:30 to about 19:00. I was able to block all mine objects when I began with it, three and half hours later I realized it was impossible to finish it; the light had changed so much I started losing all kinds of shades well before the end. Although it was a great experiment and fun for a nice summer day.

I hope when I get to my 20th painting it wouldn't look like this one :P

Afterwards the gang went to BORDERS book store, while I sat down drinking my evening coffee there was a little time for sketches.

Starbucks sketching

My biggest joy now is going to Starbucks, having a cup of coffee and sketching people there. Altough most of people are ok with us sketching them, a few of them can still get kind of annoyed.

Two jobs that I have been working on are both progressing slowly. One, a chilrden's book of poems has been taking forever; my client kept changing her ideas about my illustrated covers and finding out more errors in her own typing; The other a mural painting is going rough as well. I've found that it is very diffcult for a new graduate to learn quickly on how to deal with the client like a professional. My client said to me after reading it " this looks like it's about everything protecting you.." I went "no, it is protecting both of us." And don't mention that she almost canceled the job and wasn't going to even pay for the design. I guess to her and most other clients, art is something beautiful and valuble; the artist is someone cheap. Far as I know, many freelancing artist make less of a hourly rate than a plumer, not that I have anything against plumers, I am just amazed how people are willing to paying for a plumer's service rather than an artist's. I think all art school should all open up a business course, that would make the art major more practical.
