Moving on to oil study

This is the latest study on the "Female holding a hawk". I think I will move right on to the oil study now. I've always liked working things from the "unknown" side, making precise markings and measurements have its benefits but really don't suit me. Creating art isn't doing math, it takes courage, mistakes and corrections to sculpt out what it is you are trying to describe, so off I go, we'll see what happens from here.

The missing little Nellie-Bell

"Nellie Bell" was a children's book project I worked a couple of years ago. Mrs. Pia, who illustrated the original sketches, collected and made her childhood stories into a fabulous children's book. The making of the booking took a while, it finally came out in 2007.

Work in progress

Still working on the pastel study. I really love the hawk that one of my critics found, although it's been frozen in the freezer and it began to stink a little(by a little, I mean a lot). The owner of the hawk is going to give it a "proper burial" next month, I'd love to do something about it (a comic strip maybe?)

Someone asked me if the next "Jacovmella" is coming out soon, the answer is--yes! I lost a page of the pencil drafts (my sketch book took a nice blow in a very windy day, some of the pages went nearly out of the window, one did, finally >:( ....) Anyway, the next Jacovmella is coming out in a few days, as soon as I finish my pastel study.

Oil in progress

This is the draft of the painting in progress. I drew out the charcoal to determine the composition and now I am moving into the color study. I love using pastel for this kind of work. Most artists produce works of pastel with"freer"touch than their oil paintings. Pastel is wonderfully light weight, easy to work over and full of magic. It can also kill your lung if not protected properly. ..Of course smoking can too.

Sketch and "All About Modeling" Series

King of Prussia Sketch

Looking to be a part time/full time figure model? Perhaps you should take a look at this series before saying "Ye or Nay"!

Remember models are not people to artists, they are simply "objects" that get paid to stay still, therefore don't question the choice of the subject matter. ..for art's sake.

Just for fun

"Monkey-King"
Oil sketch
7"x10"

Forgot exactly why I painted it (class project maybe?) The painting was inspired by the character from a well known Chinese adventure fiction "Monkey-King" <Sun-Wu*_Kong>. I don't have enough patience to read it (or spend time to correct my spellings). The story is written in ancient Chinese, equivalent to old English writing...However, the heavy-text literature was made into movies and animations. "Monkey-King" , among four main characters, is the most famous character created by author "Wu-Cheng-En". He is my favorite as well~~"Monkey King" is known to be wild, rebellious and loyal, and I think he is damn sexy! :)

Fireworks Panorama

It was really really cool seeing the fireworks. While most people went down to the appointed locations, we chose a less noticeable spot, and it was perfect! We were a little far from the barges, but the view wasn't compromised a bit. I look forward to seeing next year's awesome fireworks.
