PAFA WK-3 MORE UNFINISHED OILS

PORTRAIT CLASS WITH SYDNEY GOODMAN

Sydney's class is a intense class-almost as intense as Scott Noel's class. The moment we walk in the class room on Monday morning there is no way out until the end of it. The model I chose for the past two weeks was this guy with cool mustache and healthy red glow on his face. I see red, orange and green as the three biggest elements for his skin tone and shadow. Lying out the ground image is a big of tricky because I always get to the facial or clothing details too early too soon and that's a big taboo in building up a total composition and value contrast. Must slow down-I tell myself that more often now :D

FIGURE COMPOSITION WITH DOUG MARTENSSON

Doug is very particular with the structure of the painting composition. The class is all about figuring out a great, working composition that not only evokes the purpose but also incorporate a strong sense of aesthetic beauty. To me it's really about "what" and "how". knowing what the painting is created to present and trying to arrange the subject element around so that the purpose is strong and clear-that takes some hard core cropping and creative mind. My weakest link is composition and color contrast, so I have been doing stuff with those two in mind.

FRIDAY NIGHT FIGURE DRAWING

Again nobody but Della and I were there to draw. We were so tired we didn't use any set-ups. For about one hour we just sat across and drew each other. I really enjoyed that, just drawing for myself..
